Manganese phosphating is a chemical surface treatment of steel to improve the sliding and wear properties of the piece. Compared to other phosphate coatings, it also has good corrosion resistance. There are many applications in industry and the coating is well suited for the absorption of different oils to give additional properties.

Manganese phosphating is a conversion coating (reaction coating) and therefore has perfect adhesion to steel. The coating is even on different parts of the piece and is well suited for dimensionally accurate parts. Manganese phosphating is also known in the arms industry as parkerizing, after the name of its developer. Due to its sliding properties, the coating is particularly suitable for the arms industry, as well as for various wheels and similar parts that rub against each other. The coating is good at preventing cutting in screws, for example. Manganese phosphating can also be used as a good adhesion surface for painting.
