Hot-dip galvanising of steel is a chemical surface treatment, also known as “blueing” or “steel black oxide coating”. Hot dip is a conversion coating based on the reaction between the chemistry used and the surface to be treated. The treatment gives the piece a visually striking and wear-resistant surface. It also improves the corrosion resistance of the piece.

Steel hot-rolling in Pinnoitus Helin Oy

  • Patterning with hanging and drum techniques.
  • Maximum piece dimensions: 1000x800x300mm, weight 50kg

Standards

  • Black oxide coating on iron and steel (ISO 11408)
  • Coating, Oxide, Black, for Ferrous Metals (MIL DTL 13924)
  • Coating, Black Oxide (AMS 2485)
  • Standard Specification for Black Synthetic Iron Oxide (ASTM D769)

The coating is matte black, non-reflective and even across the different parts of the piece. The surface thickness is thin and hot stamping is well suited for dimensionally accurate parts. The blackened surface is porous and the process is finished with oil to improve corrosion protection.
